Carbondale, United States - April 1, 2020 /MarketersMedia/ —

Instagram is a complicated space, one that chews you up and spits you out if you do not know what you are doing. Yet, among all of the obstacles and hurdles, there are a couple of titans of the social media space that overcome the obstacles and succeed to a level that is almost unimaginable. These individuals model the absolute highest level of passion and skill toward this profession and have been wildly successful because of it. I got the opportunity to talk with one of these gurus, internationally recognized Luke Ryan Lynn (@lukeryanlynn) and got to hear about what he does and the impact that he makes on the world.

Luke grew up with the traditional family that wanted him to work the traditional 9 — 5 job. Yet, as Luke started to get older and mature, he saw his passion was not in the traditional job but as a social media guru. Yet, this path is super difficult to actually succeed in due to the lack of available knowledge about how to succeed in it. So, Luke did what few had done at the time, he went to the core of Instagram: its algorithm. Instagram’s algorithm is incredibly complicated but once you master it, you can have every single one of your posts go viral. Luke spent months studying it, testing, failing, then after months, finally succeeding. One of the first pages that he started was called GlowUpsIG (@lukeryanlynn) and it as the backbone of Luke’s career that he has spun off to other ventures and more.

@glowupsig today has over 1.6 million followers and reaches audiences worldwide with its diverse content that appeals to everyone. Yet to Luke, this community that he has built up is more than just a business, it’s his lifestyle, his passion, and what he wants to do for the rest of his life. Luke inspires millions of kids and young adults alike to truly follow their passions and listen to what their heart and mind truly want, not what someone told you to do. Luke (@lukeryanlynn on Instagram) is an inspiration to us all and personally his wisdom has made me reconsider my career and what I truly wanted.

Chinese report says illnesses may be from new coronavirus

Jun 3, 2020

BEIJING — A preliminary investigation into viral pneumonia illnesses sickening dozens of people in and around China has identified the possible cause as a new type of coronavirus, state media said Thursday. Chinese health authorities did not immediately confirm the report from state broadcaster CCTV. Coronaviruses are spread through coughing or sneezing or by touching an infected person. Some cause the common cold and others can lead to more severe respiratory diseases, such as SARS and MERS. Such viruses are common in people but more exotic versions from bats, camels and other animals have caused severe illness. The novel coronavirus...

Innovative fashion designers lead the way on sustainability

Jun 3, 2020

LONDON — Innovative fashion designers are turning to such things as horseradish and nettles to make sustainable clothing and accessories to the delight of a growing number of buyers. While more consumers are paying closer attention to how the production of goods impacts the environment, old habits die hard. A buy-and-toss mentality persists despite a boost from celebrities helping to drive the upcycle and vintage movements. Actress Maggie Q, who created an activewear line from recycled fabrics, is among activists who see plenty of room for improvement. She says she feels "sick about fast fashion.'' "You hear people say, 'Well,...

Riot police storm Hong Kong malls to nip more protests

Jun 3, 2020

HONG KONG — Riot police stormed several malls in Hong Kong on Sunday in a move to thwart more pro-democracy protests, as the city's leader heads to Beijing for talks on deepening economic integration between the semi-autonomous Chinese territory and mainland China. There were calls online urging protesters to gather in seven locations to sustain a push for political reform following a chaotic day of protests and clashes with police on Saturday, with the anti-government movement showing no signs of letting up after nearly five months. Most of the rallies didn't pan out Sunday as scores of riot police took...

Springboks' 1st black captain gets his chance at history

Jun 3, 2020

TOKYO — It was the week after Siya Kolisi's fourth birthday when Nelson Mandela presented Springboks captain Francois Pienaar with the Webb Ellis Cup in a defining moment for rugby, and for South Africa. Kolisi was 16 when the Springboks won their second Rugby World Cup title. There was no television at his home, he recalls, so he had to go to a tavern to watch John Smit lift the trophy after beating England in the 2007 final in Paris. Twelve years on, the first black player appointed as Springboks captain gets a chance to etch his name in history...

England's response to All Blacks haka results in fine

Jun 3, 2020

TOKYO — England has been fined for crossing the halfway line in its response to New Zealand's pre-match haka at the Rugby World Cup semifinals. World Rugby says England breached "tournament rules relating to cultural challenges, which states that no players from the team receiving the challenge may advance beyond the halfway line." England's players stood in a V-formation as the All Blacks performed the haka, with a half-dozen players beyond the halfway line. World Rugby says the sanction is in line with protocol that operates across the international game. The fine is reported to be 2,500 pounds ($3,200) ___...
