Jun 22, 2018

LONDON — Novak Djokovic became the 10th man to register 800 victories since the Open Era began in 1968 when he beat France's Adrian Mannarino 7-5 6-1 on Friday to reach the Queen's Club semifinals. Djokovic, a 12-time Grand Slam champion, follows in the footsteps of Jimmy Connors (1,256), Roger Federer (1,156), Ivan Lendl (1,068), Guillermo Vilas (949), Rafael Nadal (903), John McEnroe (881), Andre Agassi (870), Ilie Nastase (846) and Stefan Edberg (801). "It's a great achievement," said the 31-year-old Serb. "I should be happy for it and proud of it. It's still the sport that I love with all my heart. I...

Murray to continue comeback at Eastbourne

Jun 22, 2018

LONDON — Andy Murray will continue his comeback next week after asking for a wildcard into the pre-Wimbledon Eastbourne International event. The three-time Grand Slam champion returned after nearly a year out with hip problems when he played at the Queen's Club in London on Tuesday, losing to Australia's Nick Kyrgios. "I'm looking forward to getting some more time on the grass courts at Eastbourne," Murray said. "I played Davis Cup there in 2006 and I know the courts and facilities there are excellent. "It was good to get back to competition at Queen's this week and I'm hoping to...

UK split by Brexit divide 2 years after vote to leave EU

Jun 22, 2018

LONDON — It's been two years since the shoppers and traders of London's Romford market voted by a wide margin for their country to leave the European Union. Enthusiasm for Brexit in this working-class district on the British capital's eastern edge hasn't dimmed. But with Britain still not out the EU exit door and negotiations slowed to a crawl, impatience is growing. "I think most people are just fed up," said fishmonger Dave Crosbie. "It seems that you take two steps forward and all of a sudden you've got to take a step back." A mere 20 miles (32 kilometers)...

Airbus threatens to leave Britain in case of no-deal Brexit

Jun 22, 2018

LONDON — Aviation giant Airbus is threatening to leave Britain if the country exits the European Union without an agreement on trade relations, underscoring the concerns of business leaders who say the government is moving too slowly. Airbus, which employs about 14,000 people at 25 sites in the U.K., said it needs to know by the end of the summer what rules will govern its operations or the company will "reconsider its long-term footprint in the country." Airbus also says a proposed transition deal that runs through December 2020 is too short for the company to reorganize its supply chain....

The Latest: Germany: Much work still undone before Brexit

Jun 22, 2018

LONDON — The Latest on Britain's impending departure from the European Union and a business warning about Brexit's fallout (all times local): 1:25 p.m. Germany says it may be possible to stick to the current timetable for negotiating Britain's exit from the European Union for next March, but much work still needs to be done. Government spokeswoman Ulrike Demmer says Friday that "on many important questions, no sufficient progress has been made so far. That means there's a lot of work left to do by autumn." She added: "we're working on the assumption that the timetable is still feasible, we're...
