He then went on to complete his pediatric residency at NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem Hospital in 2019, followed by his fellowship in medical genetics and genomics at Mount Sinai Hospital in 2021. He is double-board certified in pediatrics and clinical genetics. 

Currently training to become a metabolic geneticist, Dr. Mares Beltran is a Medical Biochemical Genetics Fellow (PGY6) within the Division of Metabolic Disorders at Children's Health of Orange County (CHOC) in Orange, California.
