Children who are on the Autism spectrum can often find the whole salon experience hard to go through, explains Cookie Cutters Haircuts. This is especially true for the younger ones who might find the experience boring at the very least and terrifying at worst.
Cookie Cutters Haircuts employs hairstylists who are experienced in the care and attention that autistic kids need and deserve. They will take time at the beginning of the haircut to consult with parents about what their children are comfortable with.
The Littleton salon explains that for children with Autism or sensory differences, the line of communication between the stylist and the parent is of utmost importance. For example, parents should not be afraid to express every concern that they have, such as noise or bright lights that might be triggering for their child. The stylist will take every precaution to make sure the experience is safe and fun.
Distractions are also very important. The premises are equipped with various toys, games, and TVs with children's shows.
Cookie Cutters Haircuts also stresses that the preparation for the haircut is as important as the haircut itself. It’s advisable that parents have a schedule in mind that is comfortable for the child. For instance, a visit immediately after school may turn out to be overwhelming as kids will often come home from school overstimulated.
